re: Internshipforjuliajackson There are never normal days in the life of a General Manager. The field of hospitality is a career that is not taught you have to be born with a hospitality heart. And the willingness to serve others to any extent to make people happy. With the title of General Manager comes tons of responsibility and you have to be a person who is able to multitask and prioritize. When I first started out in this business 20 years ago as a desk I thought of it as only a job. But I found myself becoming quickly attached to our regular customers as well as my co-workers. My job duties as a desk clerk was to make reservations and check guest in and out and to make sure that each guest stay was perfect. I would watch my General Manager and say that they had it made because I would see them only when a guest demanded to speak only with the General Manager. Then one day I decided to ask my General Manager for more responsibility because I was quickly becoming bored with my daily duties. Well at that time I was finally exposed to all aspects of he hotel. The General Manager wear many hats in this business not only are they responsible for taking there guests they also have to take care of there staff who is also responsible for taking care of the guest.

Hotel Internship I am currently employed at a local hotel in Birmingham and have been employed with this company for over twenty years. The internship at my company consists of working in all departments in the hotel. The training would start out at the front desk learning the computer system. So that at the end of your front desk training you are proficient at check in and check out and reservations. The front desk is the first impression a guest get when registering in the hotel so it is important that the person working has a hospitality heart and a willingness to serve others. The front desk is also the first person to receive complaints so you have to be able to problem solve and take care of all of your guest needs. The next department they would train in would be housekeeping the heart of the house. The heart of the house is very important because without clean rooms there is not a need for any of the other departments. The housekeeping department is one of the hardest job in the hotel because you have to be consistent each day. And you will always get the guest that does not believe the room is clean to their standards. But you have to always remember that the guest is always right and it is always the guest perception and that you are there to serve them. The training in housekeeping is always hard because you cannot clean a room at your leisure but in some cases you have to clean a room at twenty one minutes per room which is not a long time. The maintenance department is also a crucial department in the hotel because no one wants a room that does not have everything in the room in working conditions. The General Manager is responsible for attracting guests and making sure that all departments adhere to standards. The general manager is also responsible for the financial performance of the business. The general manager also have to be good with people and skilled at getting along with people.
